News From JRS

2011 Dec 31 The Foundation is pleased to announce a new call for Pre-Proposals through a cut-off deadline of 15 February 2012.

JRS is specifically seeking 1, 2, or 3 year projects to advance the field of biodiversity with a particular interest in those endeavors that systematically gather and make widely available information that is required to realize conservation outcomes.  The Foundation seeks applications proposing projects to establish a clear connection and identifiable potential link to conservation outcomes, and an explanation of the tangible uses of the data that may yielded via the grant.  No minimum or maximum funding limit has been established for individual grants but JRS is allocating an amount of $1 million US dollars to fund this new call for each of the next 3 years.  More costly projects will have a higher review threshold.

2011 Oct 25 The Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Shivaun Leonard as Program Officer effective November 1, 2011.

Shivaun has 14 years experience in international development, mostly in Africa, and an education background in biology and environmental water chemistry with a 1995 Auburn University PhD in aquaculture.  Shivaun was a Peace Corps volunteer in Zaire, training director in Gabon, and has worked with USAID.  She comes to us from her most recent position as general manager of the Source of the Nile, Ltd in Jinja, Uganda, where she worked since 2008 managing the day-to-day activities of the organization and leading it from a pilot scale tilapia farm to a profitable 2,500tpa pond and cage fish farm.

We know Shivaun will make a great addition to the Foundation and she looks forward to working with our current grantees and helping prospective applicants.  She can be reached at sleonard@jrsbdf.org after November 1.
